eLearning Research Seminar on evaluating elearning CPD practice in Irish third-level institutions

Thanks to everyone who attended our first elearning research seminar on Thursday 1st February. The event proved to be highly enjoyable and there was much fruitful discussion! We look forward to the next seminar (onThursday 8th March) and hope it will be just as successful.

As a follow up to this seminar, here are a couple of articles and links that may be of interest.

2007 HORIZON REPORT ON EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
The 2007 Horizon Report is a collaboration between the New Media Consortium and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative that "seeks to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, or creative expression within higher education."

Some key trends that the report calls attention to include:
- Increasing globalization is changing the way we work, collaborate, and communicate.
- Information literacy increasingly should not be considered a given.
- Academic review and faculty rewards are increasingly out of sync with new forms of scholarship.
- The notions of collective intelligence and mass amateurization are pushing the boundaries of scholarship.
- Students' views of what is and what is not technology are increasingly different from those of faculty.

The complete report is available at http://www.nmc.org/pdf/2007_Horizon_Report.pdf

Blended Learning: Carlow IT

On Tuesday last Kevin and myself were delighted to meet you all in Carlow and we really enjoyed our day, so thank you for having us. While we both felt the day went well, we are open to being self-critical and so we would like to get some feedback from you on the three sessions run. Specifically, we were wondering if the first morning session, while giving an interesting overview of what’s happening in elearning at the moment, and generating some lively discussion, might have been a bit broad and maybe didn’t address many of the questions that you came to the day with. And on the flip side, if the session on blended learning fulfilled your expectations either? The afternoon activities were a little disorganised and again, you may have some thoughts on that. Overall, we hope you enjoyed the day and we look forward to hearing from you.

The presentations are now in the blackboard site, along with the handouts that Roisin Donnelly provided for you. Roisin has been accessing the discussion boards on the site since Tuesday and will have a final posting in there for you by tomorrow afternoon.

Every best wish,
Frances & Kevin

- did the workshop meet your current needs?
- are there any others areas/issues that you would like to have covered?
- were the supporting materials.....adequate/too much/too little?

If you have any comments or recommendations, it would be great to hear them.

Thanks!

LTT workshop: Using PowerPoint animation and audio to enhance teaching and learning

Hi all,

I hope you found this morning's workshop useful.

We would really appreciate it if you could give us some feedback on it, particularly as it is the first time we have run this workshop. For example, did the workshop meet your needs and answer your questions? Was there any other issues that you would like to have covered? Was the pace of the session too fast or too slow?

If you have any comments or recommendations for future workshops, it would be great to hear them.

Thanks in advance,

Pauline

Irish bloggers risk running the legal gauntlet

Interesting article on legalities associated with blogging.......

The growing community of Irish bloggers who freely post personal opinions on web logs must not assume they can defame people online without facing far-reaching legal consequences, a media law expert has warned.
